4 cased Scottish antique silver menu holders Price: £380.00
4 cased Scottish silver menu holders, hallmarked for Edinburgh 1909. The crowned heart decorating these pieces is reminiscent of the Scottish LUCKENBOOTH. This was a Scottish wedding tradition. Luckenbooths were so called because they were sold from locked booths in the Royal Mile adjacent to St.Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. This type of love token goes back to the 1600s and was traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal. Possibly these particular menu holders were a most appropriate wedding present. [view]
